Pool Tips

The importance of cleaning your filter

Before you close your pool it is a good idea to chemically clean your filter in order to eliminate any debris that backwashing and rinsing may not have gotten rid of. Cleaning your filter in the fall before you close your pool will allow you to start fresh in the spring when you open your pool, and will not give the debris the opportunity to harden within the filter over the winter months. Sand and zeobrite filters should be cleaned a few days prior to your pool closing with a filter cleaning chemical. Cartridge filters can be cleaned with the same filter cleaning product after the pool is closed and then stored in a garbage bag in a cool, dry place until it is replaced in the filter housing when the pool is opened in the spring. Chemically cleaning your filter media will prolong its lifecycle.

Hot Tub Tips

TDS and Winter Preparation

TDS stands for Total Dissolved Solids and is an indicator of the saturation of your hot tub water. When you have your water professionally tested, the TDS is measured in parts per million (ppm) and when that number rises above 1500 ppm, it is time to drain the hot tub and start fresh. Once the water is highly saturated, chemicals can no longer keep your water balanced and safe for bathers. With winter approaching, it is a good time to start planning for when you would like to drain the hot tub and start fresh before the cold weather and snow arrives.
