What are the limits of your property lines? What is the minimum and/or maximum height required to fence your property? How far must the pool be kept from the property lines and from the house? What is the exact location of public utility lines i.e. underground water, gas lines, electrical cables, etc? What are the required distances from the septic lines and tanks? Are there any compliances to electrical codes required? Is a building permit required? Are there any deed restrictions that may affect location of your pool?

Access

Professional Pool Builders Associations such as: - NSPI - City Planning Department - Utility Companies - Building Departments - Personal Observations - Professional Pool Builders. Can the heavy equipment and trucks needed for the construction of your pool enter and manoeuver in the yard? Is there easy access to gas and electrical services? Does the pool site provide easy access and observation from the house?

Ground Conditions

Is the pool area primarily composed of sand, clay or fill? What is the drainage pattern of your yard i.e. how does its elevation relate to other yards in the area and what is the path that the water will follow in your yard?

General Conditions

Are there any obstacles such as trees, clothes lines or storage buildings that will have to be moved before construction can begin? What allowances will have to be made for privacy? Sun path and Wind Activity of Pool Site Sources for the Above Information How are the daily and seasonal sun paths related to the pool area? Are shadows a problem in the pool area? From which direction do the prevailing winds blow?
